Hematology

The hematological department deals with the study of blood cells and the coagulation process. It analyzes the chemical components of the plasma, the blood serum and determines the number, structure and function of blood cells, as part of a routine control, and under analysis anaemias, clotting disorders, infections, hematologic malignancies, results and chemotherapy effects and radiation.

The general blood test, the microscopic examination of peripheral blood smear (tile), the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), the electric lighting hemoglobin, the iron determination of ferritin, vitamin B12, folic acid, the enzyme G6PD, blood type, the clotting factors, Coombs tests, hemostasis, platelet function are only some of the tests that are performed daily in the hematological department. The contribution therefore in the above tests of automated analyzers becomes important as they provide accurate and repeatable measurements. Our laboratory is equipped with multiparameter Sysmex analyzers for the determination of general blood and analysts Biomerieux and Coatron for the determination of coagulation tests.
